Education in the US ,  be it under graduation, or masters, is expensive. The tuition fees varies from one college to another and also from one course to another. Generally, the cost of studying in the US is will be the tuition fees, living expenses , insurance and other miscellaneous expenses..The tuition fees will mainly depend on whether a student will be studying in a private school or a public school. The public schools are considerably cheaper than a private school, because, the public schools are funded by the government, whereas the private schools are funded by philanthropist who could be the alumni of the school, or form trust funds. However , the tuition fees per annum would be between 15000$ to 30,000$. The living expenses generally vary depending on the life style of the students,  on an average, it would cost a student 12000$ to 15000$ per annum. The living expenses include the room, good, travels, books and a little bit of entertainment included. Most campuses offer accommodation and also a meal plan for the students. These plans would vary from student to student according to their budgets.

Generally ,  a student spends around $35000 to $ 45000 per annum to cover the total tuition fees and the living expenses.The MBA programs are little more costlier than a MS degree, top ranking school will cost you at least $ 60,000$ to 70,000$ on an average.

One of the important feature of studying in the US is, the international students are eligible to stay back in the country for a period of 1 yr called the OPT  or a CPT , meaning, optional training period or the curriculum practical training . Applications & Visa Process

The first step in applying to a graduate or an under graduate school in the US is deciding on the program to pursue. Then list out the universities which offer the program and choose the university according to its curriculum, whether public or private, cost of the education, size of the school etc, whether central or suburban areas, climate .

  • The undergraduate programs in the US require the student to take up the SAT. sometimes students take up the subject SAT also in case they are planning for the IV league schools or the pre med programs in medical schools. Take up the IELTS ( international English language testing systems ) or the TOEFL (test of english as a foreign language),
  • In case of applying to the masters program in the US, the students need to take up the GRE ( graduate record examination) and also the IELTS/TOEFL
  • In case of the MBA, the student requires the GMAT, with IELTS or TOEFL. The business schools also expect a few yrs of work experience
  • Apart from this, universities also require the transcripts. These are basically the mark sheets obtained from the university or school. Generally the universities ask for the 10th and 12th grade sheets in case of under graduation , consolidated mark sheet , till the 6th semester at least , in case of the masters student .
  • The university will also require a sop, statement of purpose, which is a one page document , written by the student regarding his or her academic performances and extra curricular activities. The sop is a tool by which you can impress the admission committee regards your achievements in the school and the college level.
  • It’s a chance to convey to the admission office about your experiences, accomplishments and relevant skills. All students will not get an opportunity to meet the admission committee in order to impress them, the sop is the only tool to convince an admission committee

Letter of recommendation is another requirement of the admission office. The GRE or the GPA might give evidence regarding your academic achievements, but the LOR is the only documents where the professors or the employers give an insight about you as a person. The schools consider the LOR as important part of the application process, since , they value the perspectives of the faculty who has taught the student and also the people who have observed your work, since they can speak volumes about your abilities and personality.
The MBA applicant will also be asked to submit an essay on topics given by the university. A few questions like “what are your strengths and weaknesses” or “ what are your career objectives” or may be a note on the “ personal experiences and philosophy”

An foreign citizen, in order to gain entry into the US requires a visa, be it a non immigrant when the stay is temporary, or an immigrant, when the stay is more on a permanent basis., a visa is required. In case of students going for higher education to the US, they require to take the F1 visa .There are a few steps to be followed to apply for the US student visa

Once the student receives the i20 form the chosen university, he or she must fill up the online applications, pay the required visa fees and the service fees, and schedule an appointment for the OFC and the visa interview. The visa interview is held in the IS consulate or embassy of your country of residence. Normally the F1 student visa can be issued 3 months before the course begins , but the entry into the country is not permitted before 30 days. The visa fees for a F1 student is 160$ and 200$ for the services fees

    • D160 form ( not mandatory)
